The Programs Data Converter Fails to Convert TaxSlayer Pro Returns

CAUSE

When configured as a network host, TaxSlayer Pro workstations save tax returns into a network folder on the server. The Programs Data Converter is unable to convert from the network folder; therefore, returns that only exist in the network folder are not converted.

 
RESOLUTION
 
To convert all the tax returns, TaxSlayer Pro must be temporarily configured as a non-network install and the tax returns restored.
 
Step 1: Create a backup of all tax returns in TaxSlayer Pro

1. Open TaxSlayer Pro.
2. Select Option 8 Utilities.
3. Select Option 2 Backup Returns.
4. Select the drive letter to use for backup (typically  C: Drive).
5. TaxSlayer Pro will prompt whether to include the Network Backup Directory. Click Yes.
6. Click Check All, then click OK.
7. Once TaxSlayer Pro has completed the backup, select Option 0 Exit Menu.

 
Step 2: Temporarily configure TaxSlayer Pro as a non-network install

1. From the TaxSlayer Pro main menu, select Option 7 Configuration.
2. Select Option 6 System / Network Configuration Menu.
3. Select Option 1 Are You Using a Network?
4. TaxSlayer Pro will prompt whether you are using a network. Click No.
5. Select Option 0 Exit Menu to exit the System / Network Configuration Menu.
6. Select Option 0 Exit Menu to exit the Configuration Main Menu.

 
Step 3: Recall (restore) all tax returns in TaxSlayer Pro

1. From the TaxSlayer Pro main menu, select Option 8 Utilities.
2. Select Option 3 Recall Returns.
3. Select the directory to recall returns from (typically C:\TaxSlayer\2012\12Data).
4. Click Check All, select Overwrite Existing Return, and then click OK.
5. Once TaxSlayer Pro has completed restoring tax returns, select Option 0 Exit Menu.

 
Step 4: Set TaxSlayer Pro back to a network install
 
NOTE: This step can be completed prior to converting tax returns to the program. The TaxSlayer Returns will now exist in the local drive data folder in addition to the network folder.

1. From the TaxSlayer Pro main menu, select Option 7 Configuration.
2. Select Option 6 System / Network Configuration Menu.
3. Select Option 1 Are You Using a Network?
4. TaxSlayer Pro will prompt whether you are using a network. Click Yes.
5. Select Option 0 Exit Menu to exit the System / Network Configuration Menu.
6. Select Option 0 Exit Menu to exit the Configuration Main Menu.

 
Step 5: Convert tax returns

1. Run the programs Data Converter and convert the tax returns.
