Error Message: Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file When Opening The Program on a Workstation Computer

Symptoms

When starting the program on a workstation computer, the following error message appears:

’Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file’

 

Cause

This issue can occur if the Internet Explorer security settings are set to very high.

 

Resolution

Reset the Internet Explorer security settings

1. Exit all programs, including Internet Explorer if it is running.
2. Click Start, type inetcpl.cpl, and then press ENTER.
3. Click the Advanced Tab.

   

    

4.   Under Reset Internet Explorer settings, click Reset. 

   

    

5. Then click Reset again.

   

    

6.  When Internet Explorer completes resetting the settings, click Close in the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box.

   

    

The program should now open normally on the workstation. There are more issues that can cause this. If the above resolution does not work, look into network connectivity. Also ensure the server and network infrastructure have power.
