Invalid Characters or Symbols During Printing

Symptoms

In printing a tax return, the return prints with invalid characters, such as  □, ≥, Ω, ℅, ℓ, №, ™, fi, ≥, and etc.

Cause

This can occur because the printer may not be using compatible drivers. By default, the program requires a LaserJet printer with HP PCL 6 or higher drivers.

Resolution: Use GDI Printer Interface

  1. Log into the program as a user with Administrator rights.
  2. On the Setup menu, choose Printer Setup. An Application Settings window will display.
  3. Check the Use GDI printer interface check box and then click OK.
  4. Test that the tax return will now print normally.
