Verification Error: FRM 8879 PIN Signature Date Invalid

Symptoms

When verifying a return, the following message appears:

’FRM 8879 PIN Signature Date Invalid’

  

Cause

This issue occurs if an invalid signature date is entered on the 8879, or if the date or time on the computer’s system clock is incorrect.

 

Resolution 1

Verify the date entered on Form 8879.

1. In the tax return with the error, open the 8879.
2. In the Signature Date box, enter a valid date. Verify the date entered is not a future date.

 

Resolution 2

Verify the date and time on your computer.

If you have an internet connection:

1. Click on the clock at the bottom right corner of the screen.
2. Click Date and time settings to open the Settings window.

   

    
3. Make sure Set time automatically is set to On so that Windows will automatically synchronize the clock.

   

 

If you do not have an internet connection:

1. Click on the clock at the bottom right corner of the screen.
2. Click Date and time settings to open the Settings window.
3. If set time automatically is set to On, change it to Off.

   

    
4. Click on Change under Change Date and Time.

   

    
5. Now set the date and click on Change.

   

 

The verify error should no longer occur.
