Error Message US FRM 8862 Field Should Be Blank While Verifying a Tax Return

Symptoms

While verifying a tax return, a verify error “US FRM 8862 Field Should Be Blank” is present.

 

Cause

This occurs when question 2 “If the only reason your Earned Income Credit was reduced or disallowed in the earlier year was because you incorrectly reported your earned income or investment income” is marked “Yes” and the preparer has filled in other information on the 8862.

 

Resolution

If question 2 is answered "Yes," nothing else should be filled out on Form 8862. Either change answer 2 if the correct answer is "No," or remove the other information on Form 8862.
