Definition: "Exception Record"

Exception records are usually created after a transmission when information is received about a tax return that does not exist in the database. 

• When an updated file is received and the record that it is supposed to update does not exist, an unpostable record is created. 
• Unpostable records can be applied once the database record for that tax return is recreated.
