How to Use Generic City Codes With The Pennsylvania Generic City Form
When completing the Pennsylvania Generic City Form, a generic city code is used to carry income from the tax return into the Generic City Form.
The codes do not represent any specific cities; rather, the code just need to match throughout ALL the forms (State & Federal).
How to carry income to the Pennsylvania Generic City Form
- Open the tax return.
- Double click the income form on the attached forms list (W-2, Schedule C, etc.)
- Locate the State Use or City Name box:
- Form W-2 has a State Use box.
- Schedules C, E, F, and K-1 have City Name boxes.
- Click in the State Use or City Name box, and then click Choices. Note that the state code must be set to PA.
- Select a generic city code. All activities going to the same Generic City Form need to be set to the same generic city code.
- Example IF GENERIC CITY 1 is selected use this code throughout the return for that income on ALL forms State & Federal.
