How to share the Desktop Software across multiple workstations
This setup is used when one Desktop User ID is purchased, and the office will allow other workstations to access the software. The Main PC/Server is shared to allow access to the software on multiple pcs when they are connected to the same network connection.
Important Note: The ADMIN is responsible for creating additional logins for any staff that will access the software. (See KB 227)
- Install and configure the software by order of oldest year first and ONLY in one location, unless there will be an additional Install used as a Transfer Setup. (requires manual updates and manual return transfers - See KB 69 and KB 337). If the software is already installed on the Main PC/Server, proceed to next step to configure the network settings.Â
- Follow KB 714Â and KB 713Â to configure the network settings.Â
- Right-click on the desktop software icon and select Open file location. Navigate 1 level up to access the software folder using the Up arrow key or by clicking on Windows (C:) from the navigation bar.
- Right click on the software folder (xlink##) and select Give access to > Specific people.

- Type Everyone (A) and click Add (B). Change permission level to Read/Write (C), then click on Share (D).

- From the workstation PC, Open File Explorer . Enter the UNC path (\\HostPCName) and open the software folder.Â
Note: If you’re not sure what the host PC name is, follow KB 85.
- Locate xlink32, right-click and select Send to > Desktop (create shortcut).Â
- From the workstation PC, follow KB 84 to update the icon image.Â
*Repeat as necessary from step 4, for all the Tax Software years as required.Â
