Error message: Error 1324. The path XXXX contains an invalid character.

Symptoms

When installing the program, an error message similar to the following appears:

’Error 1324. The path XXXX contains an invalid character.’

Cause

This issue can occur if there is no “C:” drive on your computer. Setup copies files to the “C:” drive during installation.

Resolution

A “C:” drive can be emulated by mapping a folder from the current local drive to drive letter “C:”. To map a folder to drive letter “C:", refer to the following steps:

  1. Create a new folder at any location on the current local drive.
  2. Share this folder using the steps detailed in the following knowledge base article: How to Map a Network Drive on Microsoft Windows 8, Windows 7, Vista, XP and 2000
  3. Right click on This PC or My Computer, and select Map network drive.
  4. In the Drive: drop down list, select “C:”.
  5. In the Folder: field, enter the network path to the shared folder created in Step 2 above.
  6. Check the Reconnect at logon box.
  7. Click Finish to finish mapping the drive.

The program should now install to the mapped drive “C:” correctly.
